Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, Episode 3, The Autopsy

TV Miniseries, Christopher Young and Jared Banta,
String Quintet

Karen Garrity Music contracted a string quintet to record the soundtrack for episode 3 of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, titled “The Autopsy”. The music was composed by Christopher Young, a recipient of the prestigious Richard Kirk Award at the 2008 BMI Film and TV Awards. When asked why he has composed so much music for horror pictures, he said, “I’m into horror pictures because I love the fear of being alone in the dark, and I’d recommend that to any composer who wants to work in this genre.”

From Wikipedia, “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities (or simply Cabinet of Curiosities) is a horror anthology television miniseries created by Guillermo del Toro for Netflix.[4] It features eight modern horror stories in the traditions of the Gothic and Grand Guignol genres. Two are co-written by del Toro himself, while the others are written and directed by various filmmakers.” The soundtrack for each episode featured different composers.

Karen had to manage this project remotely from “Covid Jail” at home, utilizing Zoom and Audiomovers. Although Karen was healthy and cleared by doctors, the PCR test revealed viral fragments in her body, so Netflix said she could not attend the session. That was a bummer and a first!
